What is a virtual session?

Since 2020, the year everyone learned to Zoom, we've been hosting monthly virtual group sessions. On the 2nd Tuesday of each month, we host an educational based session on suicide grief. Each session is facilitated by a member of the Wellness Support Staff. We also host Let's Just Talk sessions for survivors to share, gain support, make friends. In these sessions, you can meet others that truly understand.

  • Tuesday, February 10 @ 6:00 p.m. Central

    Rebuilding Trust in Yourself

After a traumatic loss, many survivors find themselves doubting their decisions, instincts, and even their ability to cope. This session explores why this loss can fracture your sense of inner confidence and how you can slowly reclaim trust in your own judgment. Survivors will learn gentle, practical steps to rebuild self-belief, reduce self-blame, and reconnect with their inner strength.

The Secondary Losses No One Talks About

Suicide loss affects far more than the relationship with the person who died—it can change finances, routines, friendships, roles, identity, and your sense of stability. These “secondary losses” often surface months later and can feel overwhelming or invisible to others. This session helps survivors identify these less obvious impacts and provides tools for coping with ongoing changes. You’ll discover language for what you’re experiencing and support in navigating the ripple effects of your loss.

Shattered Assumptions: When the World Stops Making Sense

A sudden and traumatic loss breaks core beliefs about safety, predictability, and how the world is supposed to work. It can leave survivors feeling disoriented, betrayed, or disconnected from the life they thought they knew. This session explores how and why these assumptions are shaken—and how to begin rebuilding a worldview that feels steady again. Survivors will leave with a deeper understanding of their emotional reactions and a sense of direction for restoring meaning and hope.

The Impact of Trauma on Memory

Trauma can distort, blur, or intensify memories in ways that feel confusing or frightening. Many survivors worry that their memory lapses or repeated flashbacks mean something is wrong with them. This session explains how the brain responds under deep shock and why memory can feel unreliable after traumatic loss. Survivors will learn what’s normal, what’s expected, and how to support the brain’s healing process with compassion rather than judgment.

    Surviving the Blame Game

Survivors of suicide loss often face blame—from others, from society, and most painfully, from themselves. This session addresses the roots of blame, why people direct it outward or inward after a traumatic loss, and how to protect yourself from unfair accusations. You’ll learn how to challenge self-blame, respond to hurtful comments, and recognize that responsibility for the loss does not rest on your shoulders.

These identity shifts are often misunderstood or overlooked by others. Triggers Aren’t Setbacks

Emotional triggers can make survivors feel like they’re “going backwards,” but in reality, triggers are a normal and expected part of the grief process. This session reframes triggers in a healthier way, helping survivors understand why they happen and how to respond without panic or shame. You’ll learn grounding techniques and practical strategies to reduce distress while recognizing that these moments don’t erase your progress.

    The Story I Tell Myself

In the absence of answers, the mind often fills in the gaps with hard, painful stories—stories about yourself, your loved one, or the loss. This session helps survivors examine these internal narratives with compassion and curiosity. Together, we explore how to identify harmful beliefs, challenge unhelpful mental scripts, and gently create more balanced, truthful inner stories that support healing rather than deepen suffering.

The Weight of “What Could I Have Missed?”

Many survivors replay events repeatedly, searching for signs they think they should have seen. This session explores the emotional and psychological reasons behind this painful questioning and the impact of hindsight bias on survivors. You’ll learn why these thoughts are so compelling, how to soften their grip, and how to approach self-reflection in ways that bring healing rather than more hurt.
